Air Algérie orders three A330 passenger aircraft

19 November 2013 -- Air Algérie has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for three A330-200 passenger aircraft as part of the carrier’s continued growth plans. This order has been placed at Dubai Airshow 2013. The new aircraft will be deployed on medium and long haul routes from the Air Algérie hub in Algeria. Air Algérie has already ordered a total of five Airbus A330, which have all been delivered to date.

Air Tahiti takes delivery of first ATR-600

18 November 2013 -- Air Tahiti has taken delivery of its first ATR 42-600 in a bid to modernize its fleet. The aircraft is part of the firm order for seven latest-generation ATR aircraft ordered in August 2010 and December 2012 (three ATR 42-600s and four ATR 72-600s). The other aircraft will be shipped over the next three years. In addition to the delivery being a notable first for Air Tahiti, this aircraft is the very first to fly in the French overseas departments.

Boeing Launches 777X with Record-Breaking Orders and Commitments

17 November 2013 -- Boeing today launched the 777X program at the 2013 Dubai Airshow with a record-breaking number of customer orders and commitments for the newest member of its twin-aisle product family. Agreements for 259 airplanes from four customers across Europe and the Middle East provide a strong foundation to support development and production of the airplane.

Representing the largest product launch in commercial jetliner history by dollar value, 777X orders and commitments include Lufthansa with 34 airplanes; Etihad Airways with 25; Qatar Airways with 50 and Emirates with 150 airplanes. The combined value of the agreements is more than $95 billion at list prices.

Etihad Airways orders 50 A350 XWB, 36 A320neo and one A330-200F

\7 November 2013 -- Etihad Airways, national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced a firm order for 50 A350 XWBs, 36 A320neo aircraft and one A330-200F as part of its fleet modernization strategy. The contract was signed today at the 2013 Dubai Airshow by James Hogan, Etihad Airways CEO and Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO.

Boeing Delivers 2nd P-8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft to India

15 November 2013 -- Boeing delivered the second P-8I aircraft to India today, doubling that country’s long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.  

Boeing is building eight P-8I aircraft for India and delivered the first in-country in May. Based on the company’s Next-Generation 737 commercial airplane, the P-8I is the Indian Navy variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing has developed for the U.S. Navy.

Germania becomes new Airbus A321 operator

13 November 2013 -- S.A.T., the holding company of the Berlin-based German carrier Germania, has taken delivery of its first out of two A321s on order. Both aircraft are equipped with Airbus’ wing tip fuel saving devices, called Sharklets. The airline has already been operating eight A319 successfully since 2011.

Northrop Grumman Receives $114 Million to Build Three More Global Hawks

8 November 2013 -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation a $114 million advance procurement contract in preparation to build three more high-flying RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and associated sensors. The combat-proven intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft allows military commanders to receive high-resolution imagery, survey vast geographic regions and pinpoint targets on the ground.

The Second Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Takes to the Skies

7 November 2013 -- The second Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner completed a successful 4-hour, 18-minute first flight today. The airplane, known as ZB002, departed Paine Field in Everett, Wash., at 8:06 a.m. and landed at 12:24 p.m. local time at Seattle's Boeing Field. As the only 787-9 test airplane to be fitted with elements of the passenger interior, ZB002 will test systems such as the environmental control system in addition to avionics and other aspects of airplane performance. Boeing has conducted a series of ground tests on the second 787-9 since its completion in late September.

Boeing and Kongsberg Defense Systems Complete Joint Strike Missile Check on F/A-18 Super Hornet

6 November 2013 -- Boeing and Kongsberg Defense Systems of Norway recently completed a successful check of the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) on an F/A-18F Super Hornet at the Boeing St. Louis facility to ensure the weapons fit on the aircraft's external pylons. The JSM, which is being designed and built by Kongsberg, is a long-range, low-observable stand-off weapon able to engage land and naval targets. The test brings the JSM one step closer to Super Hornet compatibility.

Philippine Air Force Signs Contract for Eight AW109 Power helicopters

6 November 2013 -- AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, has announced that the Philippine Air Force has signed a contract for eight AW109 Power light twin helicopters. These aircraft will be used to perform a range of duties including homeland security, armed reconnaissance and close support. Deliveries will start in 2014. The contract also includes initial logistics support and training for aircrew and maintenance personnel.

Tigerair is first in Asia to retrofit A320 with Sharklets

5 November 2013 -- Tigerair of Singapore today unveiled the first A320 aircraft to be retrofitted in Asia with Sharklets. Five A320s have already been delivered to Tigerair with Sharklet-ready wings, with the retrofit work being undertaken by Sepang Aircraft Engineering in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Boeing celebrates Lion Group's 100th Next-Generation 737

4 November 2013 -- Boeing and the Lion Group, Indonesia's largest airline group, today commemorated the delivery of the carrier's 100th Next-Generation 737 at a special event. "This is an amazing moment for the Lion Group," said Lion Group President Director Rusdi Kirana. "We've grown from one airplane and today we're taking our 100th Next-Generation 737. It's an airplane that has allowed us to grow and be successful because of the low operating cost and passenger comfort."

Fifth and final A350 XWB test aircraft enters final assembly line

4 November 2013 -- Assembly of MSN5, the fifth and final member of the A350 XWB flight test fleet is now underway with the fuselage joining process. This follows the recent arrival of the three fuselage sections at the A350 XWB final assembly line in Toulouse, France. MSN5 is the second of the A350 flight test aircraft that will feature a passenger cabin. This aircraft will fly for the first time in Spring 2014 and will be used essentially to perform cabin related flight tests.

The Tranche 3 jet offers a number of provisions that future proof the aircraft and will allow it to take on additional capability in the future including e-scan radar, conformal fuel tanks and a high speed data network.

Navy's New Fire Scout Unmanned Helicopter Takes its First Flight

1 November 2013 -- The Navy's newest variant of the Fire Scout unmanned helicopter completed its first day of flying Oct. 31 at Naval Base Ventura County at Point Mugu.

At 12:05 p.m. PDT the MQ-8C Fire Scout took off and flew for seven minutes in restricted airspace to validate the autonomous control systems. The second flight that took off at 2:39 p.m. was also flown in a pattern around the airfield, reaching an altitude of 500 feet.

LONGBOW LLC Receives $92 Million Life Cycle Contractor Support Award for U.S. Army's Apache Helicopter

31 October 2013 -- LONGBOW LLC, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin [NYSE:LMT] and Northrop Grumman [NYSE:NOC], received a $92.8 million contract from the U. S. Army to provide Life Cycle Contractor Support (LCCS) for LONGBOW programs on the AH-64D and AH-64E helicopters.The LCCS contract provides integrated logistics support for LONGBOW Fire Control Radar (FCR) systems equipping AH-64D and AH-64E Apache helicopters. The contract also includes support for the AH-64E Unmanned Aerial System Tactical Common Data Link Assembly (UTA) and upgraded FCR Radar Electronics Unit (REU). The period of performance for the LCCS contract extends through 2016.

Boeing Delivers 12th Production P-8A Poseidon Aircraft to US Navy

30 October 2013 -- Boeing delivered the 12th production P-8A Poseidon on schedule on Oct. 25, enhancing the long-range maritime patrol capabilities of the U.S. Navy.

The P-8A departed Boeing Field in Seattle for Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla., where it joined the other Poseidon aircraft being used to train Navy crews. The aircraft is the sixth from the second low-rate initial production contract lot awarded in November 2011.

Czech Republic confirms delivery of four C295 aircraft

30 October 2013 -- A Czech Republic delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Defence Mr. Libor Karásek has confirmed the acceptance of four Airbus Military C295 transport aircraft. The Czech Republic delegation visited different Airbus Military facilities in Spain, including the C295 final assembly line (FAL).

JetBlue Deal Marks 10,000th Airbus A320 Family Order

29 October 2013 -- Just days after taking delivery of its very first A321 aircraft, JetBlue Airways has placed a new order for 15 A321ceo (current engine option) and 20 A321neo (new engine option) aircraft. In addition, the airline has opted to upsize 8 A320ceo and 10 A320neo aircraft currently on backlog to 8 A321ceo and 10 A321neo, respectively. This order marks the 10,000th order for an Airbus A320 Family aircraft.

EVA Air takes delivery of its first Airbus A321 equipped with Sharklets

23 October 2013 -- EVA Air of Taiwan has taken delivery of its first Sharklet equipped A321 aircraft, on lease from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). The aircraft was handed over during a ceremony in Hamburg attended by Chang Kuo Wei, Chairman of EVA Air, and Norman Liu, President and CEO of GECAS.  This A321 is the first of eight A321s with Sharklets that will be operated by EVA Air under lease agreement from GECAS

Bombardier receives 30 additional firm orders for Learjet 85 Aircraft from Flexjet, LLC

21 October 2013 -- Bombardier announced today that Flexjet, LLC has placed 30 new firm orders for Learjet 85 aircraft. The options were purchased on September 5, 2013 as part of Flexjet’s historic order for up to 245 Bombardier business jets. In addition, Flexjet, LLC, is procuring incremental options for 20 Learjet 85 aircraft. This latest transaction, including conversions of options from a previous order, brings the total number of Learjet 85 aircraft purchased by Flexjet, LLC to 60, for a value of approximately $1.2 billion US, based on the 2013 list price for the aircraft. Flexjet, LLC, is a newly created company owned by Directional Aviation Capital and is an exclusive operator of Bombardier business aircraft.

Jet Time to operate regional routes for SAS in Northern Europe flying new ATR 72-600s

21 October 2013 -- Jet Time has today taken delivery of the first of six new ATR 72-600 turboprops. This aircraft has been acquired on lease from the Danish leasing company Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC). All the ATR72-600 aircraft will be assigned to feed the SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) route network, as part of a commercial arrangement between SAS and Jet Time, and they will all be painted in SAS livery.

VivaAerobus places Latin America’s biggest Airbus aircraft order

21 October 2013 -- The VivaAerobus Group has signed a purchase agreement for 52 Airbus A320 Family aircraft (40 A320neo and 12 A320ceo), representing the biggest Airbus aircraft order by a single airline in Latin American history. VivaAerobus, a Mexican low-cost carrier, will announce the engine selection at a later date. VivaAerobus, part-owned by IAMSA, one of Mexico’s largest transportation companies, and Irelandia Aviation, a global low-cost-carrier airline developer, will replace its entire fleet of 737-300 to become an all-Airbus carrier by 2016. VivaAerobus has been a pioneer in Mexico’s ’Bus to Air’ model, which is an initiative to convert bus passengers to air travellers.

Boeing Adjusts 747-8 Production Rate

18 October 2013 -- Boeing announced that it will adjust the production rate for the 747-8 program from 1.75 airplanes to 1.5 airplanes per month through 2015 because of lower market demand for large passenger and freighter airplanes.

First Production AW189 Performs its Maiden Flight

10 October 2013 -- AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the first production AW189 8 tonne class twin engine helicopter performed its maiden flight at Vergiate plant (Italy) today. The aircraft is expected to be delivered to Bristow Helicopters Ltd. by year end to carry out offshore transport missions in the North Sea, with operational readiness planned in early 2014. Additional two AW189 helicopters are currently under assembly in Vergiate.

F-35 Lightning II Program Surpasses 10,000 Flight Hours

9 October 2013 -- The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II program continues its operational maturation, surpassing 10,000 flight hours in September. More than half of the total hours were accumulated in just the past 11 months. Through September, F-35s flew 6,492 times for a total of 10,077 flight hours. The new milestone effectively doubles the safe flight operations of the F-35 in a year, compared to reaching 5,000 flight hours in six years

Boeing Delivers First Next-Generation 737-800 to Russia's UTair

9 October 2013 -- Boeing delivered to UTair, one of Russia's leading national carriers, its first directly purchased Next-Generation 737-800. The airline currently has 40 Next-Generation 737s on order to be delivered in the next several years. "Next-Generation Boeing 737 airplanes meet today's development needs of the airline by their optimized operating performance and value-for-money proposition. Boeing Delivers EL AL Israel Airlines' First Next-Generation 737-900ER

9 October 2013 -- Boeing has delivered EL AL Israel Airlines' first Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range) airplane. The delivery is the first of six 737-900ERs the Israeli flag-carrier has on order and is the latest addition to EL AL's all-Boeing fleet.  "The purchase of the Boeing 737-900ER aircraft marks the high point of EL AL's re-equipping and fleet renewal impetus. said Elyezer Shkedy, president and chief executive officer, EL AL. Airbus and Japan Airlines sign their first ever order

7 October 2013 -- Japan Airlines has signed a purchase agreement for 31 A350 XWBs, plus options for a further 25 aircraft. This is JAL’s first ever order for Airbus aircraft. It is also the first order Airbus has received from Japan for the A350 XWB, confirming its continuing success with world leading airlines across the globe. JAL and Airbus aim for entry into service from 2019, with the airline’s A350 XWBs gradually replacing its ageing fleet approximately over a six year period.

Belavia to Add Two E195s to its Fleet

3 October 2013 -- Belavia of Minsk, Belarus, has signed a firm contract for two E195s with Embraer Commercial Aviation. The transaction was announced today at a press briefing in Salzburg at the annual general meeting of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA – www.eraa.org). The firm order will be included in Embraer’s 2013 third quarter backlog. The aircraft will join two E175s already operating at the airline. The acquisition is part of the carrier’s fleet renewal initiative to replace older aircraft. The first E195 will be delivered in the first semester of 2014.

Aurigny Air Services Goes Jet with the E195

3 October 2013 -- Guernsey-based regional carrier Aurigny Air Services has signed a firm contract with Embraer Commercial Aviation for one E195 jet. Bombardier Signs Luxair for Additional Q400 NextGen Airliners

3 October 2013 -- Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Luxair, the national airline of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, has placed a firm order for a Q400 NextGen turboprop airliner and has also taken an option for an additional Q400 NextGen aircraft. The airline currently operates a fleet of six Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft.

Boeing Delivers First 787 Dreamliner to Royal Brunei Airlines

3 October 2013 -- Boeing and Royal Brunei Airlines celebrated the delivery of the 787 Dreamliner – the first for the flag carrier of the Sultanate of Brunei and for Southeast Asia. The airpcraft departed Paine Field in Everett Wednesday evening for a 6,540 nautical miles (12,112 km) non-stop flight home to Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport in Brunei.

US Navy Stands Up F-35C Squadron At Eglin

2 October 2013 -- Tuesday, the U.S. Navy and the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB, Fla., officially reconstituted the highly decorated VFA-101 Grim Reapers Squadron during ceremonies held on the Emerald Coast.   VFA-101 will fly the Navy’s newest aircraft, the Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II carrier variant, to perform the mission of training pilots and sailors to fly and service the aircraft fleet. The speakers challenged the Grim Reapers to prepare sailors to fly and maintain the F-35C safely at sea, where its stealth, sensors and communication systems will make the entire carrier strike group more effective. The U.S. Navy’s F-35C Initial Operating Capability is scheduled for 2019.

Garuda, ATR and NAC Sign Agreement to Introduce 35 ATR 72-600s in Indonesia

1 October 2013 -- The European manufacturer of turboprop aircraft ATR, Indonesia’s national airline Garuda Indonesia and the Danish leasing firm Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) are pleased to announce an agreement for the introduction of 35 new ATR 72-600 aircraft into Garuda’s fleet. This new deal for 35 ATRs, involving NAC as lessor for Garuda, includes orders for 25 firm aircraft and options for further 10. The order, including the options, is valued at over US$ 840 million.

Airbus Military Celebrate the delivery of the 1st A400M to the French Air Force

30 September 2013 -- More than 700 people celebrated the delivery of the first production A400M new generation airlifter to the French Air Force at a ceremony at the Airbus Military Final Assembly Line at Seville, Spain on 30 September.

HRH Prince of Asturias, French Minister of Defence Jean-Yves Le Drian, Spanish Minister of Defence, Pedro Morenés, as well as other military authorities from France and other partner nations and OCCAR representatives attended the ceremony along with EADS CEO Tom Enders, Airbus Military CEO Domingo Ureña-Raso and more than 300 Airbus and Airbus Military staff.
